Inside Out: Selections from the Permanent Collection, November 20, 2004 - July 9, 2006, New Wing, Second Floor, South Metro A and Central Skylight Galleries, San José Museum of Art (2004-2006)
In 1834, William Henry Fox Talbot used the sun to expose an image on light-sensitive paper, thus inventing the photogram. To create her own brilliantly colored photograms, Ellen Carey treated light-sensitive photographic paper and placed it beneath hand-made constructions that block the light in bands of color. During the process of exposure the paper is rotated once so that the bands of light intersect to create a loose diamond pattern on the intensely-colored background.
